Own the Wind (Chaos #1) by Kristen Ashley

Tabitha Allen has a not-so-secret crush on Parker "Shy" Cage. Shy thinks he knows the path Tabby's on and it isn't a good one. So he decides to teach her a lesson to lead her to the right path.
Unfortunately, he was wrong and his actions wound Tabby, breaking her heart. It's Tabby who then teaches Shy a lesson about casting judgment and Shy Cage learns what it feels like to be invisible. But when tragedy strikes and Tabby's heart is broken again, Shy does what he can in the background to help. Trying to forget her heartbreak, Tabby finds herself in danger. To keep it secret from her biker family, the Chaos Motorcycle Club, she calls Shy to rescue her. But when she lets him back in, she gets much more than she bargained for.

Gosh where do I even begin? Unsurprisingly as always Kristen does not disappoint, the woman is a genius I swear. Just when you think you can’t love her any more, she socks you with you with another kickass book. Seriously I trust the woman unreservedly, she’s the only author where if she wrote it, I’ll own it no questions asked. I have to say that Own the Wind completely threw me, you see I thought I had it all figured out how it would go from reading the working chapters, but clearly I was way off. Don’t fret my minions it threw me in a very good way, and I'm seriously struggling with whether Shy is like officially my ultimate KA hero of all time (yup it’s that fabulous). You KA addicts know her heroes are one of a kind and it’s pretty impossible to just pick one.

Now for those of you who don’t know, the Chaos series a spin-off from the Dream man series and although you can read this as a stand-alone, I strongly recommend you read the Dream man series first. For the following reasons:
  1. You’ll get the cameo characters who make an appearance in Own the Wind.
  2. You’ll understand a little bit of the history between Shy and Tabby.
  3. And lastly because there’s a certain KA reading order, which any true KA addict will adhere to.

That said, the story line of Own the Wind was different in the sense that it was unique from KA’s other works. Lemme start from the beginning, Tabby is the daughter of Kane ‘Tack’ Allen, president of the Chaos MC and therefore is strictly off limits to all members.  She is spirited, sweet, speaks her mind and knows how to stand up for herself especially when dealing with badass bikers. Tabby has the best father a girl could ask for, and the stepmoms to end all stepmoms, but alas while growing up Tabby was stuck with a mother who was, to put it simply, a bitch. This leads to Tabby acting out and making some not so good decisions, during Tabby’s latest drama it’s Parker ‘Shy’ Cage to the rescue. Sufficed to say, despite Shy’s best intentions to ‘straighten’ Tabby out, it does not go well and results in Tabby distancing herself from the club and Shy. A valuable lesson for all, we sometimes underestimate the power of our words because sometimes they cut deep, and that hurt can last a while. And so time passes and Tabby and Shy go their own way, until tragedy strikes and Shy steps in to put back the pieces of Tabby’s shattered heart. Commence friendship, laughter, drama, happiness and a love like no other.
“You need a safe place to just forget shit and escape, I’ll give it to you. Tonight. Tomorrow. Next week. Next month. That safe place is me, Tabby.”
Shy. Shy. *Swoons*. Shy. I am irrevocably enamored with him. Now it is no secret Shy gets around…like a lot. His reputation precedes him, not a good start when starting a relationship with the cherished daughter of the not only your president but fellow brother of the club. He has total ‘dawg’ status, but see he redeems himself in the sweetest of ways and with KA giving us dual POVs we know there is no one for Shy but Tabby and vice-versa. He charged his way into my heart with his brutal honesty and complete devotion to Tabby, yeah he was a jerk but he’s man enough to not only outright admit it but to make it up to you in a way you cannot ignore.  Once all the misunderstandings were cleared away, their love was all kinds of crazy hot and cute like most of KA’s works, but this one was different I felt their romance was just so much more than what we’re used to. The moments between them were just so much sweeter and intense, and the steamy loving scenes were definitely a lot more romantic as a whole. I’ll clarify this is a good difference, I liked it…no I loved it. It totally worked and for me it added that little something extra. I adored them as a couple, they were utterly smitten with each other and made no bones about demonstrating this, they knew how to prioritize and after all the time they had already lost nothing was more important to them than their relationship. Which was freaking awesome as they had one heck of a fight coming their way, but as they demonstrate it’s unquestionably a love worth fighting for.
“I never dreamed any fuckin' dream," he whispered, and the smile faded from her face as tears filled her eyes.
She understood him.
"Shy-"
"Didn't dream it, saw it, waited my time, and then you gave it to me.”
I think it was different from usual KA works, because we’re dealing with a younger cast of characters therefore the manner in which they go about dealing with issues and each other is in some cases vastly altered. Exhibit A:
“Shy, she’s yours… Control your woman,” High demanded. “Get her ass out.”
My eyes went to Shy to see him looking at High, and he wasn’t looking pissed.
He was looking reflective.
Then he said, “Tab and I don’t play it that way. You wanna order your old lady around, do what you do, not for me to say. I asked her to go, she didn’t go. Not gonna make her. But you try, you’ll deal with me.”
Exhibit B:
“You’d give up your brothers for a woman?” Brick asked incredulously and Shy’s eyes moved to him.
“Abso-fucking-lutely.”
“Seriously?” Boz asked.
“Not any woman,” Shy nodded my way then invited "now ask again.”

This book has everything and always keeps you guessing, the story is solid and flows naturally. There is never a dull moment and you’ll find yourself all over the place emotionally, you’ll be feeling awful and frustrated one moment and the next you’re smiling huge and giddy with butterflies. Something I’ve learned from KA’s books is that all her stories address some heavy issues, but see the depth of her stories always, but always, teach you that no matter how bad the hand you’ve been dealt there is always light in the dark, you just have to hold on to reach the other side. Just one of the many reasons I love her. Kristen is one of those talented authors who has no equal, she reigns supreme over her domain of Rock Chick awesomeness. Each scene has something new, each scene will invoke some form of a reaction and each scene will deliver dialogue unlike any you’ve read before.
“May feel like you're falling', Tabby, but remember, I'm at the bottom ready to catch you.”
I loved the epilogue, it was beautiful and I always need one no matter how big or small to complete a book. Honestly I was sad to reach the end of this book, but then again with KA  books I always am because she always leaves you craving more like some whacked out junkie. I give this fantabulous book 5 extraordinary stars, and recommend to all. This book will have you sighing in frustration, screaming like a nutso fan girl, squealing from excitement, fanning yourself and stealing your breath in moments that just blow you away.  If that’s not enough incentive to read this book, then you should know there is a surprise at the end as Kristen gives us a little something extra that you will die for. No lie. So get moving and get your copy NOW!
