When he set out to prove his feelings for me, he wasn’t fooling around. Doubting him isn’t something I’ll do again, and now that we’ve made it through the rough patches, well... There’s a lot of spontaneous combustion going on.
But even he can’t protect his family from the danger of trying to free those they love.
After everything, I’m no longer the same Katy. I’m different... And I’m not sure what that will mean in the end. When each step we take in discovering the truth puts us in the path of the secret organization responsible for torturing and testing hybrids, the more I realize there is no end to what I’m capable of. The death of someone close still lingers, help comes from the most unlikely source, and friends will become the deadliest of enemies, but we won’t turn back. Even if the outcome will shatter our worlds forever.
Together we’re stronger... and they know it.”
I don’t even know where to begin, there’s just so much to be said but I feel like nothing I say will be enough. Opal is action packed, romantic, shocking and completely and utterly heart wrenching. I have never been so shaken by an ending like this before…the implications…it’s just…okay…let me start from the beginning.
Opal starts off with Kat and Daemon finally together *yay*, and how they cope with the return of Dawson. Dawson is not the same guy he was before he disappeared, but then again you wouldn’t be either after being kept imprisoned by the government and enduring all kinds of things. Dawson hardly speaks a word to anyone and he definitely does not talk about what he went through for the last three years, but he is able to talk a little to Kat as she reminds him of Beth. My heart literally bleeds for Dawson and the injustice he’s had to go through, and his separation from Beth not knowing how or where she is. If ever there was a book to make you hate the government, you’re looking at it or more like reading it *lol*. I loved the Greek mythology references, as a history freak it totally did it for me.
Kat is consumed with guilt despite Daemons’ reassurances she is not to blame. I just want to give her a big hug, to have that kind of guilt weighing you down is suffocating. The situation with Dee didn’t help matters any, I mean I felt for Dee and obviously she had a right to be angry but to hold onto that pain and anger to then place the blame on Kat was wrong. Although you could argue this worked in Dee’s favour as we see a whole other side to her, it’s refreshing yet a little scary. Jennifer clearly illustrates how remorseful Kat is for everything, seeing inside her head makes you feel more than a little bit of compassion for her because come on it’s not like it’s been an easy ride for her. She made an error in judgement and paid the price for that, I don’t think it’s fair to torment her further. As if poor Katy hasn’t been through enough, the rat bastard Blake returns. His return puts Kat in a dilemma, one that requires them to ALL trust Blake. You can imagine how well that goes down. They have every right to kill him on sight, but for Dawson and Beth they’ll have to band together and do the impossible.
Daemon is better than ever in this third installation *sigh*. You see his amazingly sweet and romantic side with Kat which just makes you get all fuzzy and warm inside. He constantly reassures Kat she is not to blame for what happened and she needs to let it go and move on. He’s like her rock, keeping her grounded and sane because all that guilt is not healthy. I admired how he controlled his personal feelings toward Blake (well most of the time) and really stepped up for his brother, keeping everyone focused on the bigger picture. Daemons’ also like the glue that holds everyone and everything together, acting as the shield for Kat between the alien crew which just made me love him more. The moments between Kat and Daemon literally turned me into a puddle of goo and had me fanning myself on more than occasion, gawd he is just so freaking cute! It’s not all hearts and roses though, I mean this IS Daemon and Kat we’re talking about, they wouldn’t be them without their constant bickering *sigh*.
Icing on the cake is Kat constantly telling Daemon she loves him, the hot kisses and the steamy private scenes *hehe*. I just loved how they're finally together, and instead of Jennifer making it a stereotypical hunky dory kind of love there was still the awesome factors from the second novel: jealousy, possessivness, protectiveness and insecurity. Of course Jennifer didn't milk it, it was all natural and understandable. It all makes for a great romance novel *squeals*.
Oh Blake. How I detest you. You slimy good for nothing douchebag! Urgh! Even his name leaves a sour taste. OMG okay so from that statement you can deduce that yes Blake returns, and is a complete rat bastard all freaking over again! I'm not giving any major spoilers away, cause you need some incentive to read this book guys. Nothing justifies what he did, the end of the book not only had me in tears but wanting to physically commit murder. Blake is sooo lucky he's fictional or I'd kick his ass!
Daemon’s green eyes held a glassy sheen. His arm reached out, fingers splayed. They never reached the laser or the door. “I love you, Katy. Always have. Always will,” he said, voice thick and hoarse with panic. “I will come back for you. I will—”
There was no Daemon.
This book made me laugh, melt, swoon, sit on the edge of my seat and cry a freaking ocean! This book has everything, there is never a dull moment. There's humour, fighting scenes, romance, secrets and lies and some hot and steamy loving that makes you open up a window! *hmm*
This novel explores coping with grief, guilt, learning to trust, mending broken friendships, fighting for the ones you love, sacrifice and a love so powerful and consuming it takes your breath away. I give this book 5 stars, and recommend to everyone! Literally has you holding your breath and eagerly turning the pages. You will so not be disappointed its not even funny.
