Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

Caroline Reynolds has a fantastic new apartment in San Francisco, a KitchenAid mixer, and no O (and we’re not talking Oprah here, folks). She has a flourishing design career, an office overlooking the bay, a killer zucchini bread recipe, and no O. She has Clive (the best cat ever), great friends, a great rack, and no O.
Adding insult to O-less, since her move, she has an oversexed neighbour with the loudest late-night wallbanging she’s ever heard. Each moan, spank, and--was that a meow?--punctuates the fact that not only is she losing sleep, she still has, yep, you guessed it, no O.
Enter Simon Parker. (No, really, Simon, please enter.) When the wallbanging threatens to literally bounce her out of bed, Caroline, clad in sexual frustration and a pink baby-doll nightie, confronts her heard-but-never-seen neighbour. Their late-night hallway encounter has, well, mixed results. Ahem. With walls this thin, the tension’s gonna be thick...

Okay so far my reviews have been books I've read at the start of 2012, so to mix it up I thought I'd start 2013 with a review of a book I've read at the end of 2012. The lucky winner is Wallbanger by Alice Clayton.

Wow what a book, I can honestly say out of all the books I read last year this one was the most unexpected. Allow me to explain, first of all it didn't fit the bill for one of my typical reads and I already learnt early on this year to not judge a book by its cover, secondly its reviews were amazing within just the first few weeks of having been released and lastly a few of my favourite authors marked it as to read or were reading it. So I thought hey I have to read this, it sounds good and lord knows I could use a good laugh. Wallbanger is one of the best reads ever and it’s earned a place on my favourite’s shelf. It was such a laugh-out-loud kinda book that I just couldn't put it down, it has a group of great friends, awesome bosses, annoying but gorgeous neighbours, a stubborn yet distraught heroine and a cat that puts all others to shame!

We follow Caroline on her bumpy journey to find her missing 'O', with the help of very thin walls and a devastatingly handsome neighbour she sets out to reclaim her 'O' which was stolen from her by...
‘Cory Weinstein. The machine-gun fucker who’d hijacked the O.’
*LOL*

This book is so witty and hilarious I swear you will not be disappointed, it’s a light read that makes you all warm inside. The chemistry between Caroline and Simon is explosive, and the sexual tension is palpable throughout the entire book all you can do is hold your breath in anticipation for when the big and very welcomed ‘BOOM’ will come. Alice builds up the story nicely, there’s no rush of emotions or declarations of love in fact in all honesty the foreplay is the best thing about the entire book.
‘“Fucking Wallbanger,” I hissed, frozen on the spot. His grin slid off as well as he played place-the-face for a moment. “Fucking Pink Nightie Girl,” he finally concluded. He grimaced. We stared, seething as the air literally turned electric between us, snapping and crackling.’
Oh my Simon *sigh*. He is just fantastic, I absolutely loved him!
‘He had jet black hair that stood straight up, likely from the Giggler’s hands buried in it as he plowed into her. His eyes were piercing blue, and cheekbones just as strong as the jaw. Completing the package? Kiss-swollen lips, and what looked like about three days of scruff….premeditated tan—outdoorsy tan, weathered tan, manly tan. His chest rose and fell as he panted, his skin coated in a thin sheen of sex sweat. As my eyes travelled down further I saw a smattering of dark hair low on his torso, which led below the sheet. Below the six pack. Below that V that some men have, and which on him didn’t look weird or BowFlexed.’
*fans self*

Simon was incredibly sweet and funny as hell, he gave as good as he got. Which really worked for me because I can’t stand romances with a guy who’s a kinda ‘goody-too-shoes’, I liked that he defended himself and knew the effect he had on dear old Caroline. I loved the way he opened himself up to Caroline as well and I did feel for the dude I mean he’s been through a lot, so his lifestyle is understandable. One reason I am now a new fan of Alice Clayton is the obvious way in which she portrayed the attraction between the two, but never allowed anything to really happen so quickly; she built it up perfectly just enough to leave you panting for more, she allowed them to really get to know each other as friends which is why for me the love between them was believable and oh so very realistic. He was my hero just as much as Caroline’s as he helped her find the ever much loved ‘O’, one thing to know about this Wallbanger is he loves a challenge.

I adored Clive, as someone who’d like to own a cat in the future, I fell in love with little Clive as there is no cat like him. He has to be by far the coolest cat ever, Alice portrays him in such a way you that at times you find yourself thinking ‘Dude is he a cat or a human?’ You couldn’t ask for a better cat, he’s loyal and just as amusing as the main characters.
‘And Clive? Clive was strutting. Strutting back and forth in front of her, giving it his all. He turned like he was on a runway, pacing along a line on the floor and glancing at her nonchalantly. If Clive could wear a blazer, he would have taken it off, draped it casually over his kitty shoulder, and pointed at her. It was all I could do not to fall down laughing.’

I give this wonderful book 5 stars. This book is without a doubt a must read, but warning you may be in stitches for half of the book and all hot and bothered for the other half. You do not want to miss out so hellooo? Go buy NOW! It’s totally worth it and you will find yourself craving more from Alice I know I am.

Inescapable (Premonition #1) by Amy A. Bartol

'My name is Evie Claremont and this was to be the making of me–my freshman year of college. I’d been hoping that once I’d arrived on Crestwood’s campus, the nightmare that I’ve been having would go away. It hasn’t.
I may be an inexperienced seventeen-year-old, but I’m grounded…sane. I look for rational explanations to even the strangest circumstances. Since meeting sophomore Reed Wellington, however, nothing makes any sense. Whenever he’s near, I feel an attraction to him–a magnetic kind of force pulling me towards him. I know what you’re thinking…that sounds fairly awesome. Yeah, it would be…if he liked me, but Reed acts as if I’m the worst thing that has ever happened to Crestwood…or him. But get this, for some reason every time I turn around he’s there, barging into my life.
What is the secret that he’s keeping from me? I’m hoping that it’s anything but what I suspect: that he’s not exactly normal…and neither am I. So, maybe Crestwood won’t be the making of me, but it could be the breaking of me. I’ve been left to wonder if the dark future my dream is foretelling is…inescapable.'

Now one thing you should know about me, which I haven’t mentioned before, is that the main draw for me with any book is the cover. I believe a book should catch your attention before you even pick it up, if it can stand out then it’s worthy of having a looking at. The cover for Inescapable is exactly what drew my attention, I was browsing amazon for a new book to read and with just one look at the cover I knew this was it, and it did not disappoint. Inescapable is one of the best angel stories I have read this year! That right there says a lot as I'm a complete sucker for a good angel book, so it’s safe to say I have read more than my fair share. This book has humour, romance, action, mystery and of course some kick-ass angels.

Evie, for me, was an awesome protagonist, she was witty, kind, brave and strong. A combination in my book you just can’t go wrong with, it can be infuriating when you get the same characteristics for any decent heroine over and over again. Thankfully Amy knows how to deliver a protagonist you just can’t help but like. There was none of that ‘I'm scared’ stuff or ‘He loves me, he loves me not’, in fact it was just the opposite which is one of the reasons why it was great read. Evie faced every adversity head on, she worked hard to get where she is and she is not about to let anyone scare her away including a hot moody angel. I loved the friendships she formed with Russell, Buns and Brownie there is something sweet about each of them and the banter between them is hilarious. Her relationship with her uncle was endearing and I loved it, it was incredibly sweet and made you go all ‘awe’. From the moment Evie meets Reed we are drawn in, you have questions flying all around you like why does he hate her? Who is he? Is he bad? What the hell is going on? The mystery of who and what Reed is, is enough to make you read on because it’s human nature to want answers, but it also doesn’t hurt that he’s incredibly hot and there is some explosive chemistry between him and Evie. Following Evie on her journey of self-discovery we delve into a world of angels, demons, shadow men, grim reapers and soul mates, as well as coming across interesting characters along the way.

Oh Reed *sigh*. Where do I begin? At the beginning we aren’t his biggest fans, I mean being openly hostile and trying to scare someone away isn’t exactly a good first impression. But alas we can’t dislike him for long, ever slowly as the story unravels and his identity is revealed we fall in love with him. Reed is an angel, a warrior angel to be exact. He is fierce, protective, loyal, freaking hot, sweet and incredibly cute. Upon realising Evie is not the threat he assumed he not only falls deeply in love with her but also becomes her protector. Let me just say, you do not want to piss Reed off because he is one badass warrior. I absolutely loved his relationship with Evie it was just the sweetest thing, you can’t help but be happy for him after spending literally eternity alone and I totally understand his aversion to dear old Russell. Don’t get me wrong I love Russell, but he and Evie are just not meant to be this time and I’m team Reed all the way. Dear old Russell will just have to find his HEA with someone else. Despite how my review might be coming across, this is not a romance novel, yeah it has romance in it but it’s not the focal point of all this, no the focal point is protecting Evie as she is an enigma, the first of her kind. We go from our ordinary world into a world where angels exist alongside humans, as do many other ‘beings’, and it’s just one of those things that makes you think anything is possible.
“I said that you are poised to be the most perfect creature I have ever encountered, under God, and the affection that I feel for you cannot be measured on Earth, or in Paradise. That is a rough translation, but it sounds better in Angel,” he explains as his green eyes hold mine.

Amy delivers a novel that you will not forget anytime soon, I mean I read this early in the year and it’s like the end now and I still remember what happens, it also helps that I’ve read it more than once. But hey I’d like to see you try and read it just once, it’s just one of those books you can pick up again and again and not get tired of. If an author, a really god author, can accomplish a feat like that, they totally have me as a major fan, and well people you just can’t go wrong. The story flows naturally, there is never a moment where you think ‘wait what?’ or ‘where did that come from?’ everything is laid out for us, and the best thing about this book is Amy reveals everything in small doses, she doesn’t let it all out at once which is great because can you imagine what incentive there would be if we already knew all we needed to know, none I tell you. The ending was really good, it was the perfect cliff hanger making you crave more desperately. It’s enough to know all’s good for now, and enough to know you will definitely read the next book because the pull to know if they get their HEA is far too tempting to resist.

Amy is one of those exceptionally talented authors who knows how to hold their readers interest, and pique it just enough that they crave more. It worked on me as I purchased all the books in the series without a single thought (I shall be posting those reviews soon), and am now eagerly awaiting the final book in the series. I give this book 5 stars and strongly recommend it. You might think it’s not your cup of tea, but you’d honestly be surprised. This book will have you intrigued from the get go, nervous with anticipation and holding your breath for more. So like go BUY NOW!
