Ryder (Slater Brothers #4) by L.A. Casey

Branna Murphy is broken. For months now she has been a part of a one-sided relationship to a man she loves more than life itself. She prayed for a miracle, and hoped something would change, but found that was wishful thinking.

Talking didn’t work. Shouting didn’t work. Crying didn’t work. Nothing bloody worked.

Ryder Slater is furious. For months now he has been lying to a woman he would take a bullet for in order to protect her. He is involved in something that goes deeper than his old past, and if he strays off target, people will start to die. People he loves.
He couldn’t talk. He couldn’t slip up. He couldn’t lose focus. He couldn’t do a damn thing.

Things between Ryder and Branna are at rock bottom, and Ryder knows it. Not only will he be taking on a force that could destroy his whole family, but he will be battling tooth and nail to save his relationship and keep the love of his life by his side.

Ryder targeted Branna from the first moment he saw her, and what Ryder targets, Ryder dominates.

O M GEEE minions! This was one crazy roller-coaster, I mean I was up and then I was down, and then I was up again but then I was upside down. It was crazy. Lee does not disappoint peeps, she knows we've all been salivating for Ryder and Branna's story since book freaking one. How did they meet? How did they fall in love? And for love of all that's holy why the hell were they suddenly fighting so much?! All is answered minions. I mean it takes most of the book to get to the why, but that's because Lee takes us back to beginning...kinda...it's from their first meeting which we know occurs during Dominic's story. Holy skittles is it explosive! I felt the need to fan myself and deep breathe for a while there, I'm not gonna lie about that. From the very start there's an instant attraction and sparks are sizzling everywhere, it makes you swoon and think they're so perfect for each other. I loved seeing a different side to Branna, we get to see really come into herself and take charge. Woman power! *Fist pumps* I was in awe of her strength, her will to raise Bronagh after losing their parents, getting herself through University and becoming a midwife. It's simply inspiring minions. Ryder gives her back the family she lost, the Slater brothers are a loveable bunch and protect their family fiercely. I was in stitches reading their interactions, the jokes and constant banter was true Casey humour. Branna and Ryder just seemed to fit. But hearing Branna's inner monologue and seeing how much Ryder has changed is heart breaking, I wanted to kick him in the shin and a few other places if I'm honest. I think she was strong sticking by him for so long, but sometimes a girls gotta say enough is enough and fight for what she deserves.
Everything was a mess. My kitchen. My relationship. My fucking life. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to regulate my breathing, but it was no use, I was close to my breaking point.
I've always loved Ryder, and seeing him from the beginning with Branna made me love him even more. But when we're back in the present witnessing Branna's heartbreak, you turn on him pretty fast and think what in the hell are doing dude?! Are you completely blind? Did you lose all sense or some shit? I mean the brothers all have their rough edges, but when it comes to the women they love they always take care. Ryder seemed to throw all that out the window, and set himself up on the mission of pushing Branna as far away as possible. I know it made no sense to me either minions. I would have loved if Lee gave us his POV, it would have done wonders in understanding hos character better. Going back to how they used to be it all just seems so beautiful, and you feel like everything's perfect for them. Seeing him being a douche I just wanted her to leave him and find better. But I suppose Branna  sticking by him shows that you can't really help who fall in love with. Love is definitely something worth fighting for.
"You're the light of my life," Ryder said, breathing heavily against my lips."Without you everything was dark, and unappealing. I didn't want to live without you."
Picture
I feel the twist towards the end was much needed, as it picked the book up a little bit. I have to admit it was a little slow in places, I understood the past flashbacks because it helps the reader understand the characters better, but when we went back to the present I couldn't help but feel it was repetitive and going in circles. I wanted more action, more drama and more passion. It was lacking a little in those departments for me. But the twist gave that extra kick, and all you can think is 'Oh shit!' and hold onto your kindle with white knuckled hands anticipating the next thing. And then we finally reach they why, why Ryder changed, why he pushed her away and why everything went to hell. It explains a lot minions. Oh and then we get a classic Casey happily every after, true Slater style and I was a complete swoony mess on my bed. The ending was sweet, romantic and perfect for the characters. Pretty well deserved minions. So my rating is 4 fantabulous stars minions, but I would strongly recommend reading the books in order. It's much more invigorating, but you'll also understand everything better. Now I need to get my hands on Damien's story, the best is always saved until last *sighs*.

Lawless by T.M. Frazier

Thia is prim and proper.
Bear is leather and lawless.
It will never work between them.
It's a lie they almost believe.

It's no secret I've been in love with Bear from day one. He's an outlaw, he's incredibly sexy...and he's a freaking biker! My favourite kind of book hero minions! After the way King ended, Bear's story was in desperate need of telling. Miss Frazier did a wonderful job of showing us there is more to the scary biker than meets the eye, it is the way she gave us little glimpses into his character that has us falling head over heels for him. But of course we can't forget about Thia minions. When her life takes a heartbreakingly drastic turn for the worse, she seeks out the one man who can help her, the man who left her with a ring and a promise. A promise she prays he can keep, because her life might just depend on it. She was just the type of heroine to fit him, and their introduction was so sweet it gave me tingles. She was sharp, witty and strong. Much stronger than any one should be at her age, and I think that's what makes the reader connect with her. We all remember being that age and realising the real world is looming outside, all dark and gloomy where hope is almost a fickle thing. It takes great strength to persevere and hold on, to face each hurdle with our heads held high and give the world a big FU. Thia does all this and so much more. Because It seems as if it's one thing after the other with her life, and you can't help but feel endeared towards her, and start hollering for hers and Bear's relationship. I mean it's no easy thing minions, and the constant battle between them and their own desires is what makes this novel such a page turner. The constant question of will they? Won't they? Lingers in our heads page after page. She's a desperate woman on the run seeking protection, and he's a lawless biker living by his own rules and wanted by the MC. However could they find a way to work?
"That first night when I saw you in that bed hanging onto my ring, like you were drowning and it was your life preserver, I just knew."
Of course Miss Frazier couldn't give us our biker without his  best friend, our first love, the mighty ruthless King *sighs*. I have missed him people, and I loved how he was by Bear's side no matter what. And let us not forget the much missed Preppy *sniffles*, I loved how he was woven into the story and kept alive for not just Bear and King, but also for the reader because his character is truly one of a kind. Now Bear was everything we thought but also so much more, there wa sa new found depth to his character. He was the perfect man for Thia, because while they may have seemed opposites there was a lot they had in common, and not all of that was good. There were times between them that were painful, and heart breaking but there were also times when it was achingly beautiful and hot! His no care attitude and hard shell were infuriating at times, and it was a wonder how Thia could ever burrow herself into his mind let alone his heart. There was also an impending sense of doom, and suspense hovering in the air throughout the book, as Bear is very much a wanted man minions. The danger lurking around him, as well as in him is some seriously intense shizz. That all combined with his off the charts chemistry with Thia, is why this is yet another book by Miss Frazier has left me on the edge of my seat. I kept picturing the story taking one turn, only for it to take a completely diferent one. It keeps you guessing all the way to the end.
I wanted to possess her. Own her. CLAIM her.
Picture
Now I'll be honest and say I knew the ending would be a cliffhanger, and that something bad would happen...but what we get is one heck of a curveball. I actually has to pause, and go back a page or two cause suely I'd read something incorrectly. Alas I read it right, and now my heart is beating in restless anticipation for the next installment in Thia and Bear's story. How long I'll last is anyone's guess, but I will be all over that bad boy like a monkey seeing banana's for the first time. Yet again Tracey has given us a beautiful, action packed, dangerous love story that's won my heart completely. Her writing style is utterly unique, and she's perfected the art if keeping her readers guessing. I know I couldn't bear (get it) to put it down, I mean I actually considered not going to work just so I could read all day. Minions this a story you will not want to miss as the year draws to a close, it has a feisty and brave heroine on the run along side an intoxicatingly lethal drop dead gorgeous biker on the MCs wanted list. What more could you possibly ask for?

One man stripped of his freedom, his morals...his life.

Conditioned in captivity to maim, to kill and to slaughter, prisoner 818 becomes an unremorseful, unrivaled and unstoppable fighter in the ring. Violence is all he knows. Death and brutality are the masters of his fate.

After years of incarceration in an underground hell, only one thought occupies his mind: revenge...bloody, slow and violent revenge.

Revenge on the man who lied.

Revenge on the man who wronged him.

Revenge on the man who condemned him and turned him into this: a rage-fueled killing machine.

A monster void of humanity; a monster filled with hate.

And no one will stand in the way of getting what he wants.

One woman stripped of her freedom, her morals...her life.

Kisa Volkova is the only daughter of Kirill ‘The Silencer’ Volkov, head of the infamous ‘Triad’ bosses of New York's Russian Bratva. Her life is protected. In reality, it’s a virtual prison. Her father’s savage treatment of his rivals and his lucrative and coveted underground gambling ring—The Dungeon—ensures too many enemies lurk at their door.

She dreams to be set free.

Kisa has known only cruelty and loss in her short life. As manager of her father’s death match enterprise, only grief and pain fill her days. Her mafia boss father, in her world, rules absolute. And her fiancé, Alik Durov, is no better; the Dungeon’s five-time champion, a stone-cold killer, the treasured son of her father’s best friend, and her very own—and much resented—personal guard. Unrivaled in both strength and social standing, Alik controls every facet of Kisa’s life, dominates her every move; keeps her subdued and dead inside...then one night changes everything.

While working for her church—the only reprieve in her constant surveillance—Kisa stumbles across a tattooed, scarred, but stunningly beautiful homeless man on the streets. Something about him stirs feelings deep within her; familiar yet impossibly forbidden desires. He doesn’t talk. Doesn’t communicate with anyone. He’s a man beyond saving, and a man she must quickly forget...for both their sakes.

But when weeks later, out of the blue and to her complete surprise, he’s announced as the replacement fighter in The Dungeon, Kisa knows she’s in a whole lot of trouble. He’s built, ripped and lethally unforgiving to his opponents, leaving fear in his wake and the look of death in his eyes.

Kisa becomes obsessed with him. Yearns for him. Craves his touch. Needs to possess this mysterious man...this man they call Raze.
Tillie has done it again minions! I thought her Hangman series was taking things to a new level, but Tillie proves in Raze how diverse and utterly enthralling she can be. One could even go so far as to argue it's one of her best novels thus far, which should say it all for you minions. Now I admit I love all her work, and I really thought she outdid herself with the Hangmen series but I have to say she blew me away with Raze. I was unsure with what to expect, and yes I confess worried I wouldn't get into it. That was far from the case people, once I started I couldn't put it down. Raze and Kisa's story is full of anguish, mystery, passion and brutal raw intensity. Tillie takes her writing style down a very dark path, and I can say with 100% certainty the Dark Romance genre suits Tillie perfectly. While there are many things within the novel I struggled to deal with, the secret surrounding the Hero and Heroine far outweighed my uneasiness. This is definitely not a read for the faint hearted, and I must warn abuse survivors of triggers so please proceed with caution.

Kisa was an interesting heroine, and I have to say even now I don't know if I like her very much. On the one hand she's a woman who's endured a lot of pain in life, and has found a way to survive even if she's not really living. But on the other hand she's quite weak, refusing to fight her circumstances so as not to rock the boat. It was beyond frustrating, and I don't think I've ever wanted to bitch slap a heroine more. I suppose looking at life through her eyes, I can see why she would hesitate to disturb it. After enduring such a soul crushing loss, one could see why she kind of loses the will to fight Alik and the life set out for her. Meeting Raze certainly breathes life back into her, and that's the point in the book I start to really root for her. While some might find it too coincidental for these two to meet, I thought the setting was rather fitting and definitely sets the pace for the mystery that surrounds Raze. Hope blooms in Kisa's heart, and for once despite the repurcussions she doesn't doesn't just rock the boat, she completely flips it over and lets it sink. Fate has given her a second chnace with Raze, and she'll be damned if she let's her fear of Alik take it away from her. The more time Kisa spent woth him and the more clues that came up, the more I was holding onto to my Kindle for dear life, anxiously waiting for the truth to be revealed. Tillie certainly knows how to keep her audience captivated. The spark between Kisa and Raze was breathtaking, and I admit as a reader I was totally envious of their connection. It's the one you spend your whole life waiting for minions, and you just know the beauty of it is unparalleled.
Hell, Raze couldn't be described as handsome. Rough, raw, dark, dangerous, intimidating...the opposite of handsome. But I couldn't tear my gaze from him.
So sufficed to say where Raze is concerned my feelings are pretty damn clear. I. Love. Him. He was the perfect dark, tormented and unbelievably endearing hero. My heart for him, and I can't recall the last time I was so bloodthirsty for revenge, I wanted him to get answers but more than that I wanted him to get justice. The wrong done to him is sickening, and I supported his quest all the way. With a life before the Gulag stolen from him, a body riddled with scars and hideous tattooes, and what seems like a lifetime of death and blood surrounding him he finally gets his opportunity for revenge. Meeting Kisa was simply fate, two lost souls reuniting without realising it. He has only one mission, but his heart recognizes what his mind cannot. Things become blurred, memories are resurfacing and time is running out. Raze will have hius revenge, and he'll protect and keep Kisa while he gets there. I was in awe of how Tillie illustrates the power of the mind and soul, it is definitely something to behold and make you wonder. She depicts Raze as such a strong hero, despite enduring so much he's alive and breathing, and while he's not 'normal' by some standards he's one of the toughest, meanist son of bitches alive. I would not want to bump into him in a dark alley minions. I know I said he breathes life to Kisa, but with him I full on believe Kisa resurrects him. Before her he was a holow man, unfeeling or caring of anything or anyone until she came along, blinding him with love and lightness. Despite the love story between them, the bigger plot has yet to unfold minions. The game has been set, the players at the raedy and the enemy is drawing closer. What Raze wants, Raze gets. Lives will be lost, and blood will be shed.
"Can I have you? I want to have you...I need to have you"
Picture
The ending seemed fitting to me, although I admit I would have liked something more from Alik's father. I absolutely loathed Alik, and if ever there was a cause for grievous bodily harm, he would most assuredly be it people. The overall conclusion wasn't so much a HEA, but more like a new beginning. You could argue all's well that end's well, but the Hero and Heroine are definitely two very different people by the end of the novel, than they were at the beginning. So my rating stands art 4.5 absolutely amazing stars, just when I thought Tillie couldn't get any better she whacks us with this. It was interesting learning of the Bratva, the social expectations and how the lines between right and wrong don't exist. The mafia lifestyle certainly gives the whole story that underlying edge, the one that makes your skin prickle in anticpation and hold your breath until the page has been turned. Fans of Tillie will not be disappointed with her, and lovers of Dark Romance will be in breathless excitement.

Where Darkness Lies by Bella Jewel

Anger and pain brought them together, but their passion might just set them free.

Dimitri wants only one thing: revenge. His stepfather, Hendrix, has caused him nothing but pain and heartache. At last Dimitri can take something—someone—important to Hendrix and make him pay: Jess.

Jess is feisty and strong headed. Her past haunts her and connects her to the dangerously dark Dimitri in an unexpected way. Dimitri keeps his secrets locked deep inside, and Jess is drawn to this broken man like no one before.

With little to cling to besides their haunting pasts, both could have been doomed to lives spent raging against the darkness that holds them prisoner. Instead, it seems that as their pain draws them closer together, it is their desire that will set them free.
Bella, why are you so awesome? I absolutely loved Jess and Dimitri's story! I have been so excited to get their story, because from Enslaved by the Ocean I just knew it would be explosive. It was all that and more. Now you know I like my romance a little twisted these days *winks*, and so Jess and Dimitri's backgrounds were the perfect set up for a tale of revenge, passion and sexy pirates. From what I gathered of Jess in book one, I knew her story was going to be unpleasant, and my heart hurt for her minions. I found her to be such a strong individual, if you looked up surivior you'd find her name there, because being honest with you I was in awe of her. Everyone has their dark days, but she found a way to live and push forward at all times. Her darkness and strength is what made her the perfect match for Dimitri. When captured her thoughts are of Hendrix and Indi, rather than her own safety which says a lot about her character. She also had faith Hendrix would save her, so really she just needed to bide her time. But nothing prepared her for Dimitri, the dark and deadly pirate hell bent on revenge. The more time she spent with him and got to know him, the more she fell for him and tried to find a way to save him as well as Hendrix. What made their connection special was that it wasn't your convetional romance, it was dark, twisted, raw and poetically beautiful. I adored Bella's writing style and depiction of the monster finding love and hope, I think it's one of her best works to date minions.
" I feel a connection when I'm with, an understanding...but more than anything, I feel you, Dimitri. With everything I am."
What made me fall in love with Dimitri? Well aside from his super hotness, he was the definiton of tortured hero, and you know I have a weakness with these types of heroes. Plus did I mention he's a freaking pirate! I wanted to hate him, I wanted to kick him and I really wanted to scream at him. But as the novel progressed he seemed to start finding his way, and I was suddenly all about team Dimitri! While he techincally kidnaps the wrong person, he couldn't have got it more right. Jess was the gamechanger. The one to shake the foundations of not just his beliefs, but also his entire outlook on life. He tries gard to keep her out, remind himself why she's there and what she stands for, but he can't fight the pull he feels towards her. There's something about her that speaks to the neat inside, and as he slowly allows her in he realises she's a kindred spirit. She knows the darkness. She's seen, endured and come through the other side. She may be his captive physically, but in the battle of hearts he is hers. My heart ached for him, his past is gut wrenching and so even when I wanted to hate him, I simply couldn't do it. I loved how Bella illustrates his inner turmoil, he doesn't want to want her but she belongs to him. The alternate POVs did so much for the characters, I was able to connect with them and it gave the story a greater meaning. I think what stuck out to me was the struggle Dimitir went through letting his hate go, enough of it to fight and keep Jess even if it meant to tolerate Henderix. Which I understand, because how do you let go of years of hate and anger? It's not easy minions, and Bella demonstartes this through his struggle of loving Jess.
"Women like you, they're different. You're not the same as a thousand others, you're one of your own. So while you might not be the stereotype, you can be so much more beautiful."
Picture
My only issue with the book was Jess's disappearance, because I felt like I already knew where the story was going after that. I like their to be a little mystery and drama, so that when the climax comes along I'm bug eyed and breathless from the impact. Aside from that, I loved every second of it, and practically devoured it the moment it showed up on my Kindle. My rating is therefore 4.5 breathtaking stars! There's drama, mystery, passion and adventure. The revelations in this novel leave you speechless, with scenes that leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. Bella fans will not be disappointed, and Dark Romance lovers will be in heaven. She just seems to get better and better, and my obsession with her is borderline unhealthy. She's become an author I 1-Click all the time, and the minute her names mentioned in my emails? I am all over that ish minions. If you're looking for something different, something dark, raw, beautiful and just a new take on pirates the this is for you.

Crying Wolf by Rochelle Paige

Picture
Grace Shaw is on the run from her crazy ex-boyfriend who refuses to believe their relationship is over. He's a cop and is willing to use police resources to track her down. So Grace comes up with a plan and tricks his fellow brothers in blue into thinking crying wolf a couple of times when he's reported her missing. Little does she know she'll go running into the arms of a real wolf when she finally makes her escape for real.

She just wants to be left alone, but then she meets Hunter Tate - the alpha of the Black River Pack. Grace tries to hold Hunter at arm's length, but there's just no reasoning with an alpha male werewolf who insists she's his mate.
Have I mentioned how much I love Rochelle? I think I should say it again, Rochelle...I love you. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we're given a freaking shifter romance! You know I love me some alpha shifter goodness, so this opportunity was too good to pass up. Now long time minions already know my issue with novellas, so you can understand my predicament with going ahead with this. I have nothing against them, they're just not my thing and I can't deal with the shortness. Obviously after bugging Rochelle with questions on the length, I signed up straight away. Damn am I glad I did.

Grace's character was so endearing and strong willed, I loved her going toe to toe with Hunter. Their back and forth was amusing, and said a lot about their chemistry. Lust and love all at first sight...for Hunter anyway. Grace neeeded some convincing. I liked their story, it was all about second chances, risks and an all consuming love. Grace has endured a lot, and has fought hard to gain her freedom, she just wants to remain hidden and move on. Easier said than done, when your manager is one fine speciman who gives you tingles, oh and a crazy stalker ex...yeah shit just got real.
It was refreshing to have a heroine who didn't constantly question everything, or second herself, with a nudge in the right direction she allowed herself to fall in love, and she fell in love hard minions.
"I was broken when we met, Hunter. I didn't feel whole until you. It was like the pieces of me scattered with the wind when my parents died. And then I ran smack-dab into you and you hold all the bits of me together. Without you, I'd fall apart, and I never want to lose you."
Picture
I loved Hunter, he was every bit the broody alpha shifter. I liked how protective and growly he got where Grace was concerned, but more than that I liked that he sensed her uneasiness. So he not only proceeded with caution, but also went sniffing for clues to protect his woman. I'm all for independence minions, but my whole body tingles when the 'Mine' word comes up. I just find it sexy, and Hunter made it damn clear Grace was his, so you best step back bitch before he chews your ass out! If only her ex got this message, *sigh* the douche was asking for it. Not only do you not mess with his woman, but you don't come near his pack. Hunter was a fierce and just leader, well respected by his pack and loved by many. I enjoyed his relationship with Grace, there was banter, chemistry and of course lots of sex *smirks*.
Now of course as with any Rochelle novel/novella the writing style flows naturally, and there's a sense of instatnt satisfaction. While I love plot twists and drama, there's to be said about 'cutting the bullshit'. Don't get me wrong there was plenty drama and mystery, but in the grand scheme of things it was  just annoying, rather than jaw clenchingly frustrating. Whatsmore despite it's length, Rochelle does a good job of character construction, from Hunter and Grace to the background characters. Which does of course mean I'm looking forward to the next book. That being said my only real issue with the book was it's length, I just wish there was more time to explore Hunter and Grace's relationship, because while it wasn't insta-love rubbish, I still felt like it needed more for me to really understand them. So where does this leave my rating? Well after much deliberation, my ratings stands at 3.5 lusty stars. Rochelle goes outside her comfort zone woth this genre, and for a firsrt attempt it wasn't bad but I'm sure it has the potential to be great. So I'm very much looking forward to what Rochelle hits us with next.

Royal Blood (Royal Blood #1) by Amity Cross

Picture
A hit gone wrong, an impossible contract, revenge and the ultimate kicker... falling in love.

Mercy Reid is a runner.
She found the perfect place to hide, until it wasn't.
Xavier "X" Blood always gets what he wants.
He had the perfect arrangement, until it wasn't.

X is the mysterious tough guy from Royal Blood MC who gets shit done. Cross the Club and you get a visit from X. Only one person walks away at the end of it...and it isn't you.
Mercy is hiding something. Something big. Looking to get lost, she runs from one hopeless situation right into the clutches of a monster.
When X and Mercy meet, something more electrifying than sparks fly. Something dangerous, passionate and forbidden.

When you deal in death, there's only one way things can end...
Or is there?
Now when I signed up for this, I'd only ever heard of Amity but had to read one of her books. So before I received my ARC, I went om Goodreads and picked one... I fell in love with her writing style by page 2 minions. So my excitement for Royal Blood had definitely grown, and she did not disappoint people. Earlier this year I became a fan of Dark Romances, because life isn't always sunshine and daisies and the darker novels, for me, are much more real and raw. Mercy and X's story was intense minions. It was dark, gritty, raw and all consuming. Mercy's secret was a big one, and the more hints Amity dropped the quicker I solved the puzzle, and when I did I was clenching my Kindle hard waiting for X to catch on. Things were building between them fast, there was instant sexual tension and their chemistry was scorching, so of course I was nervous about X's actions when he clocked on. I gotta hand it to Amity for creating such a badass heroine, 'cause Mercy takes crap from no one, including X, in fact she challenges him in the most enticing ways. Her 'take no shit' attitude has you admiring her, especially when her secret is revealed, my heart hurt for her and I was in awe of her strength. She went from a normal girl with an average life, to a woman on the run consumed by darkness. In the blink of an eye she loses everything, and the only thing keeping her breathing is revenge, one way or another she'll make them all pay. So meeting X definitely throws a spanner in the works for her, but he's like a dark, sexy beast she cannot resist, and caving into her baser instincts was inevitable.
I needed his skin against mine...I needed it. I felt like I'd drown without him. He'd anchor me in this crazy darkness. In this crazy motherfucking world that threatened to consume me with blood and murder...X would either save me or destroy me, but I was beyond caring which it would be.
After all this time running and hiding and severing every connection between the human race and my new life, it was X who I chose. I chose the monster.
X. I want to say the letter says it all, but I'd be lying minions. He was fierce, intimidating, dark, broody and well a walking advertisement for sex. Did I mention he's a biker? *Insert dreamy sigh here* Already you can imagine the chemistry between him and someone like Mercy. He's a hit man, plain and simple. He has a job, gets it done and never looks back. But damn if he resist the allure of Mercy Reid. He knows he needs to stay away from her, he has a job to do and she's only a distraction, but she's like a siren luring him in with her sharp wit and rocking body. Imagine his surprise when the pieces begin to fall into place, suddenly shit just got a lot more complicated. I have to say I loved the banter between X and Mercy, it cracked me up and just added to the tension surrounding them. Amity does a great job of illustrating the complexities of a world where there is no black and white, how a simple act/decision in time can change everything you thought you knew. Suddenly who you are is a mystery, the line between right and wrong is blurred ans you're walking a fine line between life and death. My heart ached for not just Mercy but X, the things he's had to endure and overcome to survive are scary and gut wrenching. How do you break away from all you've ever known, and let someone in, when you've been conditioned to be nothing but a cold blooded killer. His feelings for Mercy confused and agitated him, he wanted to resist but he could never truly stay away. As the storm rages around them, X proves he'll fight for not just his freedom but her's too, and fuck anyone who tries to stop him. You created the monster, and now he's out for blood. Your blood.
There was no black and white in my world. It was black or blacker. And I was the blackest of them all.
"What are you doing to me?" he whispered. "I'm bringing you back to life."

I did not like X's so called 'best friend', I really wanted to knee him in the balls. I thought he just a douche, but when the truth comes out towards the end, I wish X would have just killed him, because he sure as hell didn't deserve to live after what he'd done. I also feel a strong hatred for his MC, they're not the hot, broody and badass bikers we usually encounter, oh no, they're cold, ruthless, evil killers. They crushed X's humanity, and use him for their own personal gain. A hollow man looking for freedom, trapped by the conditioning of his 'friends'. The ending was not what I was expecting, and I liked that it was basically a cliff hanger ending. It means Amity has me gripped, anxiously anticipating the next book. My rating is therefore 4.5 gripping stars! I definitely recommend this if you're a fan of Amity, and Dark MC romances. It's packed with mystery, action, passion and tragedy. Amity's writing style is something to take note of, her words flow effortlessly and the character's are always in sync with one another. She knows how to keep you on the edge, have your stomach all twisted with nerves and hold on to your Kindle for dear life.

Once Upon A Time by S.K. Hartley

I don't believe in fairy tales.
I don't believe in glass slippers.
I don't believe in Prince-Freaking-Charming.
Cinderella can kiss my ass.
I kiss frogs, sometimes even toads.

I've given up on meeting Mr. Right, instead it seems all I meet is Mr. Wrong, Mr. Very-Wrong and even, Mr. Lets-Not-Even-Go-There.

Fairy tales are for morons.

Well, that's what I thought until Gabriel Black barged through my life, turning everything upside down.

He's hot, sexy and little rough around the edges.

But, he's hiding something, something deep. I can feel it, taste it and smell it.

Now I'm left wondering if he's my Prince Charming or my fairy tale villain.

Will I ride away safely into the night, dreaming of happily ever afters?

Or, will I stumble and fall in ridiculously high heels only meant for women with a death wish?
As a lover of fairytales, this opportunity was too good to pass up minions. A modern spin on an all time classic tale? As if any book junkie could resist. Now I confess I haven't read much of Sophie's work *ducks face*, but I am a fan and totally geeked out on meeting her at RARE14. I was excited for this book, and devoured it greedily seeing it on my Kindle. Payton is my kinda chick people. A straight talking heroine with wit, charm and a damn good sense of humor. I loved her no BS attitude, and admired her for following her dreams. PR is all she's ever wanted to do, and when she's given a chance to prove herself, things take a surprisingly sexy turn. Gabriel Black. Just his name invokes shivers of delight. Poor Payton not only has to prove herself, but has to work extra hard to resist Mr Black. Something he does not make easy minions. Thus where the fun all begins...
There was no such thing as fairy godmothers or magic pumpkins. Instead, there's only villains, poisoned apples and a whole load of ugly sisters just waiting to pounce. Cinderella could kiss my ass.
Gabriel Black was my Once Upon A Time.
Oh Gabriel *dreamy sigh*. Just his name invokes shivers of delight. I adored him from scene one minions. He was every bit the broody, dominant alpha hero. I thought he was the perfect match for Payton, and I absolutely loved how hard he not only fought for her, but made her believe in fairytales again *swoon*. Everyone has a past, and while I struggled with both his and hers, I liked how Sophie illustrates their pain bringing them together. They've both loved and lost, but in one another's arms they realise that true love finds ways to prevail. Of course I gotta hand it to Gabriel, because Payton is one stubborn woman people. There were times even I wanted to shake some sense into her, lord knows how Gabriel remained so patient.
"Prince Charming doesn't exist, Payton," he whispered against my neck. "But I do."
"...And damn it, if you say we're just sleeping together one more time, I'll tie you to the bed and show you just what we are." "And what is that exactly?" I asked, a little breathless. "A goddamned fairy tale." He growled.

I adored Quinn and Kylie! They were just you funny for words...but I was a little worried they had a drinking problem. Wine seemed to solve everything. I think they were just the kinda people Payton needed in her life, because they saw through her Armour and encouraged her to give love a chance. I really hope Kylie gets her story with Luca, cause I just know that's gonna be all kinds of sexy fun.

Alas it wasn't all perfect for me. I struggled a lot with Payton and Gabriel's relationship, while I understand and appreciate Sophie taking sex out of the equation, I didn't understand the depth of their feelings to one another. You see I get it takes more than sex to really see a person and love them, but I felt like they didn't spend enough time together. Any time they did have always seemed so short with so much unsaid, I suppose for them to feel the way they did I expected a deeper connection between them. I also wanted more from them and their story, I wanted the epicness of fairytales, with action, danger and romance. All of which I found lacking within the story.

That all being said minions, my review stands at 3.5 swoontatstic stars. It was a sweet tale of love, forgiveness and well happily ever afters beginning. It had all the implements of Cinderella, from the evil boss to the vindictive sisters. That's one of the things I loved the most, the fairytale references and likeness. It made me all tingly and happy. This book had a mixture of a lot of things, there was secrecy, anticipation, hot sex, humour and love. I liked Sophie's writing style, and what stood out for me the most was the humor. I love a good chuckle, but Sophie had me in hysterics at times. She's totally my kind of people. I'm looking forward to whatever happens next in this series, it has a lot of potential to become great.

Reaper's Stand (Reaper's MC #4) by Joanna Wylde

As Reapers Motorcycle Club president, Reese “Picnic” Hayes has given his entire life to the club. After losing his wife, he knew he’d never love another woman. And with two daughters to raise and a club to manage, that was just fine with him. These days, Reese keeps his relationships free and easy—he definitely doesn’t want to waste his time on a glorified cleaning lady like London Armstrong.

Too bad he’s completely obsessed with her.

Besides running her own business, London’s got her junkie cousin’s daughter to look after—a more reckless than average eighteen-year-old. Sure she’s attracted to the Reapers’ president, but she’s not stupid. Reese Hayes is a criminal and a thug. But when her young cousin gets caught up with a ruthless drug cartel, Reese might be the only man who can help her. Now London has to make the hardest decision of her life—how far will she go to save her family?

It would seem the Reaper's MC series just keeps getting better and better minions. You know I have a serious MC Romance problem, and I can honestly say the Reaper's is my number one series. I'm talking could read it again and again kinda obsessed people, it would never get old and it would forever set the bar for all MC Romances. Now that's all cleared up, let's get to the review. I have been waiting for Reese's story for a while now, and hey I'll admit it okay...in this instance older men are totally my thing. I'm just putting that out there. I loved his character, he was the definition of raw, dirty and gritty. Joanna definitely holds nothing back, it's a little like a shock to the system with the realness behind it all, and yeah he is a little...uncouth shall we say...but that dirty mouth does things to my girly parts. So I'm totally okay with his kinda language. I will say he is one stubborn man, I mean the wait for him to claim London is torture but when it happens? There's fireworks, explosions and you get tingly all over....okay slight exaggeration but there were tingles minions I asssue you. Of course I loved London's character, she was quick witted, smart, strong and funny. I think she was a great match for Reese, as she really kept him on his toes and gave him back that something he lost a long time ago. Hope. While they certainly clash heads often, the sexual tension is always just simmering below the surface, and waiting for that boom to happen leaves you giddy with excitement. The only thing that annoyed me with London a little was her unwavering loyalty, and I think Reese plays a big part in her kinda stepping up and laying down the law. Yes kids do stupid shit, but hey they'll never learn if you always bail them out. Aside from that little blip, London was not only an admirable character but her relationship with Reese was entertaining as all get out.

“I didn’t need a man, but if I wanted one I’d take him and use him and then pass him along without a second thought, because I’d become a sophisticated, modern woman if it killed me. Sure. And I would lose ten pounds and age backward, too. Right after I learned to fly my invisible jet.”
“Is this the point where I sing the little song about Pic and London sittin’ in a tree?” “Only if you want the tree shoved up your ass.”

Reese is everything we've heard of and more. The man knows how to drive a woman insane...with need, want and just unadulterated lust. All of this means I couldn't find it in my heart to focus on his douchebaginess, I confess I was blinded by my hormones okay. But I mean he wouldn't be the freaking president of the club if he was a saint, and really why would you even want to complain when he can make your panties disintergrate with just a few dirty words? Like seriously?! *Holds hands up* Now of course there's more to him than just that, I found that Joanna portrays Reese like an onion 'cause you have to peel back the layers, and there is a lot of them let me tell you. He's stong willed, brave, a straight talker, loyal and just awesome to be honest. Like I said his relationship with London is entertaining, but it's also raw and real which makes you crave a little of that. They don't have the best start, but as the book progresses we begin to see why they suit one another, and the drama that unfolds around them just adds to their chemistry. Finally getting inside his head we see the pressure he's constantly under, with his family and club who are always top priority. I think London was his gamechanger, because since he lost his wife he's held himself back in many ways, but London just has this way of drawing him out for all he's worth and makes him question things. That right there spells perferct romance minions. Joanna does a wonderful job of illustarting the beauty of two perfectly imperfect people clashing and falling in love, and I don't think there's more we could ask for from her because it's enough. I loved the dual POVs because you know I like getting inside characters heads, but more than that I find it just adds to the connection we develop with them.

“My inner caveman decided it didn’t matter. Fuck safety, and fuck picket fences. London Armstrong obviously couldn’t take care of herself, which meant someone needed to step in and fix this shit. If that meant claiming her, so be it.”
“Just let me be strong for you for a minute, okay?” He said softly. “You’ve held on for a long time, sweetheart. Nobody can say you haven’t been strong. But it’s been a hell of a night, so why don’t you let me hold you and help you right now, okay?

Of course we are reunited with some of our favourite characters, which makes you feel all warm inside with the fuzzies. I adore the brotherhood between the club, and some of the members are funny as hell, so much so I would love to chill with them sometime. The drama that unfolds with London, is gripping and pretty scary but it has you sitting on the edge of your seat, breathless with anticipation and clutching your Kindle for dear life. All of these are the tell tale signs of a freaking awesome book. My rating is therefore 4.5 gritty stars! It's short half a star because I feel like London's actions were understandable, and hey fear makes you do stupid shit but she more than made up for it, yet was unfairly punished anyway. That bugs me a little, I gotta be honest with you. Aside from that I loved Joanna's writing style, and her ability to completely suck me into the Reaper's world. I look forward to the next book.
